Times magazine’s ‘Spa of the Year’ in 2007, Six Senses Spa at Porto Elounda forms part of a recent extension to one of the most exclusive resorts on the island of Crete.

Using ancient and modern design elements the architects created a sumptuous environment with more than thirty treatment rooms and a magnificent authentic hamam. Six Senses Spa offers a wide range of therapies from beauty care to holistic healing.

Appropriate music and lighting levels are known to aid treatments by stimulating the senses - helping to create atmospheres that can be either calming and relaxing or energising and invigorating. Therefore an essential requirement of the overall design of the Spa was an intelligent lighting and music distribution system that would allow independent control for each treatment room. Lifestyle Technologies designed and installed a custom solution encompassing both lighting and audio aspects.

For the project we selected a Lutron HomeWorks lighting control system and an RCF multi-room, multi-source music system in conjunction with a Russound SMS music server. An astronomical time clock incorporated into the Lutron system automatically adjusts lighting levels in the communal areas according to the position of the sun. Preset control keypads in each treatment room allow consultants to choose a lighting scene that will enhance a specific treatment or therapy.

Audio is delivered to all areas of the Spa through a network of discreet in-ceiling speakers. Consultants are able to select music independently using controls in each treatment room, whilst audio for all common areas is controlled from the main reception desk.

The installation has satisfied all of the client requirements and expectations and we are proud that our contribution to this project has helped Six Senses Spa achieve its high level of recognition for excellence.
